What You Can Do To Repair Your Air Conditioner

Your air conditioner allows you to stay cool and relaxed when it's too hot to be outside. The cool air that you feel on your face when you arrive home is a welcoming feeling, but when you walk in expecting this cool air and instead are met with humidity and stale air, it's not exactly relaxing. If you are met with this hot air, you need to get to the bottom of the issue of your system in order to get it working properly again. Hiring an HVAC technician to help you repair your system is a good idea, but there may also be a few things you can do as well. Read on for helpful information.

Replace The Air Filter And Reset

Replace the air filter in the system if it is dirty or full of debris and dust, then clean up as much of the dust as possible from this area using a shop vacuum. Once clean, you can turn on the system again to see if it runs. There is a reset button on your system, and you can turn it on to reset the system and check to see if it helps as well. The air filter needs to be replaced every other month, and if you are not doing this, it can choke your system. Remember to replace this filter.

Test Or Replace Your Thermostat

If your air conditioner is not running, the thermostat could be part of the issue. Be sure the thermostat is set to cool and is at a proper temperature. You cannot set your thermostat to 50 degrees and expect your air conditioner to run at this temperature. You're going to set your system up for failure, so don't do this. Adjust the temperature on the thermostat to a more reasonable temperature and see if it turns on. Listen for any noises coming from the system. If you don't hear anything at all, the thermostat may be an issue. Change the thermostat and see if this helps at all. The thermostat may not be sending the signal to the air conditioner to actually turn on. Replacing it with a new one may help with this.

If your air conditioner is not running properly, there are a number of things you may be able to try and do to get it working again. If you are not able to get it working, hire a professional to help you make the necessary repairs or replace your system.
